BATON ROUGE – Franklin J. Foil today officially announced his candidacy for the Louisiana House of Representatives in District 70. Foil is a Republican and a local attorney. He also serves as a Commander in the United States Navy Reserves. “I’ve considered running for office for some time now,” said Foil. “But considering the situation our state and Baton Rouge are in right now, and the fact that we have an opportunity with term-limits to really create change in the legislature, I knew this was the right time for me to run.” District 70 is a growing area in southeastern Baton Rouge. The district borders LSU and stretches south down Highland Road to Airline Highway and over to Tiger Bend Road. Foil describes himself as a “fiscal conservative, pro-business Republican.” “I believe District 70, Baton Rouge, and the entire state, must become more business friendly,” said Foil. "I will find new incentives for business growth, and seek to make our government a partner in economic growth and not a roadblock.” Foil also believes that Louisiana must strengthen its ethics laws to attract new industry. Foil said his campaign will also focus on improving education. “I will work to increase LSU’s status as the flagship university and to protect the TOPS program for all citizens.” In addition, Foil said he is committed to implementing programs for children with special needs who need extra assistance to succeed in a traditional classroom. Another priority in Foil's campaign will be roads and traffic. Foil said one of his top priorities will be to improve traffic and infrastructure in Baton Rouge including the construction of a loop around the city. Foil is a life-long resident of Baton Rouge. He and his wife Tanja Foil have been married for 16 years. They have three children, Kathleen, Grace and Andy. They are members of First Presbyterian Church where Foil currently serves as an Elder.
